A Statement About These Pieces

Sculpted graffiti occurring in the natural setting is not so temporary as the painted surfaces along buildings, overpasses and train cars. The touch of a tool to tree or rock is longer lasting and less easily erased by time or other touch. These images are drawn from those contemporary petroglyphs that mark unprotected natural surfaces. They are a visual collection of who was there.

The paintings may omit elements found in the original setting, but none are added, so the image is a reasonable record of the events that created the marks. Rotating the canvases engages the fluid quality of the natural world in spite of these amendments.

A Statement About These Pieces

More and more my work upcycles imagery found in my environment. Recreating a photograph that presents a pleasing composition is a learning experience in color and line.

A Statement about these pieces

These images address taking the time to reflect on the shape and colors of preferred objects to discover what makes them visually comfortable.
